WRITING HISTORY AND RELATED EMPLOYMENT
January 2013—Ongoing:
Self-publishing a historical novel entitled A Beckoning War, via Amazon Create Space.
The novel took years to write and extensive research, both in the National Archives and

April 2012:
Story titled “Figment” published in Sulphur, a small upstart journal run by the Laurentian
University English Arts Society in Sudbury, Ontario. I have since also published this
story online on the story sharing site Wattpad to workshop it with other writers, and have included it on my website: http://murphilinear.com/?page_id=154
October 2005 — February 2007:
Curriculum writer / editor and English teacher at Moonkkang English School in Daegu,
South Korea. Wrote and edited teaching materials for advanced ESL students, as well as
taught conversational English to elementary, middle and high school students at an after
school language academy.
May 2004 — June 2005:
Technical Writing Sub-Contractor for the Writing Room in Ottawa, Ontario. Wrote and
edited online help manuals for field project management and human resources
applications for various NGOs (ie. ZAMSIF, GYST, Careers Without Borders.)
September 2003 — April 2004: Writing Assistant at Laurentian University. Aided
fellow students with written and oral assignments, and with conversational English skills.

PRIZES AND AWARDS
First Prize, President’s Essay Competition at Laurentian University. The contest was open to all undergraduate students. I won $2 500 and the essay was printed in a pamphlet.
PERSONAL INFORMATION AND HOBBIES
As a writer with many years’ cumulative experience, I have much to offer. Since completing my undergraduate studies in the spring of 2000, I have lived and worked in Ireland, England, South Korea and China and in First Nations communities in Canada and done much traveling around the world. Overall, I am an accomplished and serious creative writer and can apply my talents for writing and editing to just about any end.
