Hey There,
I am applying for the boom operator position on your film. Since graduating from The Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology in July of 2013 I have worked as a sound designer on a stop motion short film sponsored by The LEGO Group, as a Stage Manager and Live Sound Engineer at the Traverse City Film Festival and as a boom operator on the upcoming feature film, Terry’s Car Gets Stolen. I have also worked as a boom operator on five short films for the Canadian Film Centre, Trouble & Maker Media, Red Spade Productions, Omega Films and PG Films. Currently I am doing all audio post-production on Terry’s Car Gets Stolen and MAD and am interning at Noble Street Studios. OIART taught me both the creative and technical aspects of boom operating and location audio mixing. I have learned industry standard recording, editing and mixing techniques. I have worked with equipment such as the Sound Devices recorders and mixers, wireless and wired lavaliers and many different shotgun condenser boom mics. With knowledge of timecode, frame rate, audio compression, phase and proper boom micing techniques I assure you industry standard audio recordings.
At OIART, I worked independently and in crews of up to four people on music and sound design projects, where I learned to work with a team to reach an end goal in the most efficient manner possible. This inspired a lot of creative discussions, from what materials and mics should be used for foley and source recording to choosing frequency space in which to layer sounds with synthesis and sound effects from libraries. When crafting sounds, I try to use emotional-encoding, narratives and associative powers to make the audience feel a certain way. My partner and I constantly pushed each other to experiment with sound; recording at half-speed, importing audio at wrong sample rates, and using FM distortion techniques to create interesting and sometimes menacing tones. Most recently, our ‘Inspiration’ audio for pictures project was judged as a top 3 finalist by the Head of Audio Post Production at Technicolor in Toronto.
