‘Looks Just Like The Sun’ follows the character of Lorne, a young military veteran recently returned from his tour overseas. What Lorne finds back at home are pretty much all of the reasons he had left in the first place; a broken down city, no job prospects and a son to whom he can’t even begin to relate. But even Lorne’s empty world is fragile, and things are reaching their breaking point.
Characters:
LORNE – (Male, 25-30) Lorne has a lot of trouble connecting to every day life since his return from overseas. Everyone around him feels like a stranger from his neighbours to his own son. Getting a job, getting groceries, getting by, it all seems pointless. We are looking for an actor who will really invest in this role and make it his own.
CONNOR – (Male, 9-12) Connor feels like he’s always done just fine on his own. Of course he wishes that Lorne were more a father to him, or even just less of a zombie. He’s smart enough to know that wishing for something won’t make it come true, but young enough to wish for it anyway. He’s a kid on the cusp – just about to outgrow any hope of a relationship with his father, but not quite ready to let it go.
BRENDA – (Female, 30-45) Brenda meets Lorne in a bar and at first, she thinks he’s just another deadbeat punk. Brenda has a soft spot for military men, though, so she warms up to Lorne. She thinks maybe she can take his troubles off his mind, if only for a little while.
RAND – (Female 40-55yrs.) Black. Rand is Lorne’s caseworker. A Detroit native and army wife, Rand feels for Lorne’s situation. She wants him to succeed, but she’s seen cases like
his before, and she’s worried he’ll end up a lost cause.Submissions
